Q: Are probiotics in food products better than those in capsules?
A: Not necessarily. Probiotics in food usually require refrigeration and have a shorter shelf life (weeks to months) than capsules (up to two years). If someone is lactose intolerant, probiotics in dairy products should not be taken unless the lactase enzyme is present.
Q: Are probiotics/prebiotics safe to take long term?
A: Continue to enjoy your favorite probitoic/prebiotic forumla. The friendly flora in PRE beverages are compatible with and are used by most people. Always read labels to make sure you’re getting more probiotics than fillers. The more probiotics consumed over time, the happier your body will feel.
Q: Can children drink PRE or take probiotics?
A: Absolutely! Since PRE contains an adult dosage of prebiotics/probiotics, it is best to cut the adult serving by 1/4 – 1/2. Also, giving children probiotics through capsules or powder can help support a healthy immune system, digestive system and reduce allergies.
Q: What are the side effects of taking high levels or overdosing on friendly bacteria (probiotics)?
A: There are no known side effects to taking over the recommended dose of probiotics. In fact, it is most likely that increasing one’s daily consumption can be better than not, for one’s health. We are faced with more stress these days therefore, frequently consuming probiotics/prebiotics can only benefit us. It is smart to start slowly with any new product and increase over time.
